This series of etchings was created by noted printmaker Richard Hellman over a period of
several years. The series comprises seven extensively worked zinc etching plates, which have
been printed in a variety of full-color versions, using the viscosity technique.
Viscosity printing is a method of printing several colors simultaneously from one etching plate.
It is especially effective in bringing to life these magical scenes, imagined by an artist whose
work is otherwise non-figurative. Hellman was a student of Krishna Reddy and David
Dreisbach, of the experimental studio Atelier 17 where the viscosity method was developed.
These recent editions of Magic Forest Series were printed at Ink Spot Press by Richard
Hellman with the assistance of Justin Darrow and Naomi Le. The show also features several of Hellman’s animal sculptures. The zinc plates used to print the Magic Forest series, will also be on display.
